This traditionally churned butter is washed with ice cold water before it is extruded and packed by hand. South Downs Butter can be frozen. Fresh, it has a shelf life of up to 6 weeks. A Great Taste Award winner for seven years in a row, this is a butter to make Granny proud!
GOLD - 2014 Great Taste Awards - Judges comments: “Attractive pale, creamy colour with cross section striations indicating the churn. No free running water droplets. Gentle, fresh, creamy aroma. The initial flavour is of a salt hit, then a creamy feel spreads across the palate. Persistent fresh feel with a good length of flavour, and the salinity is well balanced by the creaminess. ‘I would happily eat this on its own’.”
Why have we changed the size and shape of our rolls?
The cost of butter production rose by 47% during 2022. This means that despite us absorbing a lot of this increase, the retail price in shops was getting very high, so we decided a little bit of Shrinkflation was in order. Also, we have received many requests to reduce the diameter and lengthen the roll to replicate a typical French roll. This means that with our new shape, it is easy to slice the butter into small discs.
Storage: Eat within 1 week of opening. Keep refrigerated below 5°C.

Bought this for the first time with my latest order. It is lovely tasty butter, very creamy and very lightly salted. We took this pack on holiday with us (self-catering cottage in Suffolk), and it was a real treat which we used to cook with and with cheese and biscuits as well as with mini baguettes for breakfast.
